LED

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are a relatively new field of application at Heraeus. They are being used increasingly in general lighting. Flexible substrates from Heraeus are to be found in a new type of LED module with high light yield for the flash of digital cameras and cell phones. An LED chip based on gallium nitride together with the flexible substrate form a module which is produced in large numbers. The flexible substrates coated with nickel-gold or palladium are so designed that the user can put on the substrate, beside the LED lens, one or more minichips needed for the application in the smallest possible space.
The heat which develops when the diode lights up is dissipated over the complete surface of the substrate into the metal layer. These good thermal properties of the LED-package combined with short switching times permit fast flash frequency and a high light intensity.
Application:
LED-substrate as a carrier in mobile flashlights
