Composite Materials - A Mixture of Various Characteristics
A composite material is a combination of two or more materials differing in form or composition on a macro scale. The composite has certain material properties which differ from those of its individual components. The material characteristics and the geometry of the components are of particular significance to the properties inherent to composite materials. The combination is brought about by either adhesive bonding or by form closure, or a mixture of the two.
At Heraeus we use a variety of composite materials which widely vary in type and application:
- Roll clad composite materials (AlSi, stainless steels, precious metals, …)
- Stamped laminates
- Metal-plastic components (injection-moulded metal parts with functional surfaces – insert moulding)
